Counselling

Sometimes, things can get on top of us and feel too much to cope with. You may want to talk to someone separate from your friends, family, school, college, work, etc. Counselling at YPS is entirely confidential. We don’t talk to your school, parents, or guardians. We would only break confidentiality if we felt you were at risk of harm to yourself or someone else. We constantly endeavour to discuss this with you first so you always know what is happening.

You can talk to us about anything and everything; we will always listen. The most common concerns that people bring to counselling are feeling anxious, suffering from low mood, having problems with relationships, issues at school/college/work/university, unsure of identity and purpose, experiencing intense emotions such as anger, suffering with low self-worth and low self-esteem. Whatever you are facing, you don’t have to do it alone.

Our counsellors are trained in a Humanistic approach. Given the right conditions, we can all grow and flourish. Counselling provides a safe, confidential space to explore and work through whatever is troubling you. Our counsellors at YPS are trained to listen to what is important to you; they will offer you empathy and accept you just the way you are.

Our counsellors will provide a non-judgemental, compassionate, and confidential space for you so that you feel comfortable being yourself. They will not tell you what to do or give you advice but will listen carefully, help you think about your feelings, find answers, unlock your potential, and break any unhelpful behaviour patterns.

The counselling sessions are free; we offer up to 6 months of counselling (24 sessions).

We offer face-to-face, online and telephone counselling.

If you are under 13, you will need to check that your parent/guardian is aware you are seeing us

We do have access to a room at the Chichester Family Hub Centre in St James Road for counselling use. This room suitable for those with limited mobility.

What is counselling?

  • A chance to be listened to.
  • An opportunity to talk about what’s really important to you.
  • A place to explore feelings and ideas in a safe and confidential space.

What counselling isn’t

  • Telling you what you should or shouldn’t feel – it’s your head and your feelings!
  • Giving you advice – we are sure you get enough of that!

Will anyone know I am in counselling or what I tell my counsellor?2022-10-07T11:37:18+01:00

No, not unless you tell them to. Your counselling is confidential and so is what you speak to your counsellor about. In very extreme circumstances where there is concern for you or someone else, we may have to share the problem with other professionals, and we would always try to discuss this with you first.

If you feel that things are not working for you, it’s ok to speak to your counsellor or another member of the team and you will be helped to change your counsellor.
