Volunteering Opportunities

Volunteer

Are you passionate about supporting and working with young people? If so, we would love to hear from you.  Our volunteers are vital to the service we offer to young people. We highly value the time, effort and skills our volunteers bring to the team.

We have opportunities both within our emotional support service and counselling service.

What we offer

  • Full training
  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities
  • An opportunity to work with young people in a safe and supportive setting

What you can give

  • A completed application form
  • Two satisfactory references
  • Enhanced DBS check (we provide)
  • A regular and on-going commitment your weekly time slot
  • Attendance at fortnightly (for counsellors) or monthly (for emotional support) group supervision

YPS volunteers play a huge part in everything we do. We simply couldn’t do what we do without the kindness, skills, and knowledge of our incredible volunteers.

There are different volunteering roles at the Young People’s Shop. Some roles we ask you to commit to on a regular basis every week or some on a more occasional basis.

Outreach volunteers

Volunteering at events or activity workshops is a great way to support us. You’ll also get to meet lots of new people and support us by raising awareness of what we do! This role includes helping at workshops or activity sessions, supporting the young people who are taking part, attending events, setting up our stand, talking to people about YPS, including schools, college and university events, leaflets, and poster distribution. This is occasional throughout the year.

Emotional Support Volunteer

Do you have experience working with or supporting young people? Are you someone who wants to make a difference in young people’s lives by being there to listen when it can sometimes feel they have no one else to turn to? As a YPS emotional support worker, you’ll be there for young people and listen to them as they open up about whatever is worrying them, whether it’s bullying, self-harm, identity or family relationships – you’ll be there to support them. Our Emotional Support Volunteers work an afternoon a week between 2.00 p.m. and 6.00 p.m. for up to 4 hours.  It is desirable to have a Level 2 Counselling Skills Qualification or be committed to completing it within the first 3 months of volunteering with us.  We provide regular training opportunities.

We are also looking for Bank Emotional Support Volunteers (as above!) who would be happy to cover holidays and sickness on an occasional basis.

Creative Workshop Volunteer

Do you have a hidden talent or passion that you would like to share with our young people? If you have a couple of hours to spare on a one-off or occasional basis and would like to make a difference by volunteering to run a fun and enriching activity or workshop at the Shop. Volunteers would be required to plan and prepare craft sessions themselves, but material will be provided and purchased for them.

Community Volunteer fundraising

Whether it’s organising events, baking cakes, or making connections with local businesses, having people freely give their time to help YPS, raising money, is one of the most significant ways of helping us support Young People. This role can be done from home in your spare time.

Become a corporate partner

Whether you’d like to partner with us for employee fundraising and engagement, commercial donations, volunteering, or one-off activities, we can work with you creating a partnership that leaves your employees inspired and knowing they’ve helped young people within their community.

A partnership with YPS is one of the easiest ways to help implement your company’s CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). It is the perfect way to show your customers, employees, and investors that your business cares and wants to help change the lives of others.
